The scooter carries its original non transferrable registration number. The MOT certificate expired on 27 August 2013 and it is presently on a SORN. If you know anything about Rumi scooters you will know that these machines are very rare indeed. especially the Tipo Sport model. The design is unique and iconic and they seldom come up for sale.
Formichino means “little ant,” and that’s pretty much exactly what you get with these rare bikes built from 1954 to 1958. 1957/58. In 1957/58 and 1960, Rumi won the famous Bol d'Or 24-hour races at Montlhery in France and subsequently Rumi produced the Bol d'Or scooter named after the race.. In the UK, it sported dropped handlebars, chrome plated aluminium cylinders and twin carburettors but the French version favoured the Bol d'or with a single 22 mm carburettor. Moto Rumi had plans for a quite breathtaking scooter, that sadly never made it into production. Ostensibly more a ‘traditionally’ styled scooter, with fully enclosed bodywork, the real innovations of the machine lie beneath those glorious streamlined shapes. The Rumi Formichino (Italian for "Little Ant") was an impressive scooter with a very distinctive design - there's a prototype now in the renovated Petersen.
